April Fitness Update

Is anyone else SO excited that tomorrow is May?! I know that I am! The weather in April has been awful around here, so I have my fingers crossed that we'll be able to get outside this month! We have highs in the 70's three days this week! Everyone pray it stays that way. #pleasegod

April started off with Spring Break & that meant a week at my parents house. Being away from home & my gym, coupled with Chick-fil-A and a fully stocked pantry wasn't ideal. However, it didn't spell disaster. I came back with the mindset that life would get back to normal & I'd get back to business. That was kind of true...

Duck Donuts... you get me every time & I'm not even mad about it.
I've come to the conclusion that April was a necessary maintenance month. I needed a mental break from calorie tracking & structured workouts. I worked out regularly, but relaxed on my food intake (see donuts above). So, I don't have a ton of gains to report, however I can say that I'm ready to get back to work this May! The weather is going to be nicer, we'll be able to grill up all the protein, and more veggies will be in season. I took the afternoon to prep yesterday & I can honestly say I'm excited to be back at it again.

One other awesome thing that happened this month... Eric & I started taking spin class together! He has been totally on top of his game since we joined the Y in February & one Saturday I jokingly invited him to join me at spin that morning. I assumed he'd tell me that it was for girls (which we all know is not the case) but he totally took it on! He was surprised by how intense that hour was, but loved it! We've been back together three times now & I think he was really disappointed that we had to miss this week while my parents were here. I love that we're in this together & feel like we're closer than ever since we started working out together. Our kids love it too because the Y's childcare is a fun fest!

Now, goals for May:

  1. Get my 5K time under 30 minutes. This will be tough because even though I'm at the gym five times a week, I haven't been running super consistently. I really want to do a few races over the summer though, so getting myself 5K ready is essential!
  2. Get over my fear of the free weight area. I am SO intimidated by all the men that populate the free weight area when I'm there! I need to educate myself (via YouTube lol) and go in with a plan so I look like I know what I'm doing!
  3. Hold a 3 minute plank every day. Yep. Every day. I need to strengthen that core for the summer!
