How I Take Care of Myself

This year, I've made it a huge priority to take better care of myself. I think teachers & moms get so involved taking care of other people all day long, they often forget to take care of themselves. So, a teacher/mom like myself can really let herself go. Here are a few things I do to take care of myself... 

Sleep - I need sleep. I am not a person who can get 5 hours & be ok. I'm just not. I require 8 hours a night, which means I go to bed by 10 & am up by 6. When I don't get 8 hours, I feel it & it totally affects my mood. 

Exercise - I can't believe I'm typing this, but I am a morning work out person now! I sleep in my workout clothes and roll into my school's weight room to work out by 7:15 each morning. That gives me a solid 45 minutes to work out and then another 15 to get myself ready for work. We have plenty of weights, machines, & cardio equipment to keep me happy and you can't beat the convenience! I love sitting down at my desk at 8:15 knowing that my exercise ring is already closed! 

On non-school days, I go to a local gym & will either use the machines or take a class. I am so much more consistent on school days though because I get totally distracted by life on weekends & days off!

Healthy(ish) Eating - So, I love things that are bad for me, but I also like to look good in a swim suit. For that reason, I track my calories daily, but don't freak out if I am going to dinner or a student brings in a treat. (Like today, when a student brought me a heart shaped donut!) I try to follow the 80/20 rule and not stress about it. I do track my macros loosely - mainly to keep my carbs in check!

Saying No - Ugh... this is hard for me, but I am getting better! I have started saying no to things. It's going a long way to lower my stress levels & increasing my free time. We are so overscheduled during cheerleading season that I really have to protect my time with my family, which is why we don't go to every birthday party, girls night out, or PTA event. 

Other little things... I drink a ton of water. I walk, walk, walk & track my steps. I wear my Apple Watch to monitor my activity - because some days I'm a slug & don't even know it. I turn off my phone while I make dinner & eat dinner with my kids.
