A Day in Our Life - Fall 2014

I always love to read these posts on other people's blogs. I enjoy seeing how other people structure their days, easy ways they save time, and how they wrangle their kids from place to place. Before I begin, know that our schedule changes drastically from season to season, mainly because I coach in the fall & winter then I'm off all summer long. Right now, I'm going to recap what a typical day looked like for us this fall...

5:30 - Wake Up Call

Ella normally comes in & wakes me up around 5:30. Some days I bounce out of bed, others it takes some gentle prodding from Miss Ella to "Get Up! Get Up!" Since she's a persistent little thing, I'm always out of bed by 5:45.

5:45 to 6:30 - Getting Ready

Depending on the day, I shower, get dressed, do my hair, then add accessories. While I'm doing all of this, Ella is playing or watching Disney Jr. I like that she has a little unstructured time in the morning to just do her own thing and she really entertains herself. Once I'm ready, I get her dressed & then we head downstairs. I grab breakfast & lunch, get our coats on, and then we head out the door.

This is also when I take my selfies...

6:30 to 7:00 - Commute

I have about a 20 minute commute, depending on how many school buses we get behind. While I normally pack my breakfast, we stop for iced tea every morning, usually at Tim Horton's, but sometimes we splurge with Starbucks.

7:00 - Drop Off Ella

I always drop off Ella at 7 a.m. That lets her get into Miss Jennie's house & settled before breakfast is served. Since Ella loves her Miss Jennie, drop off is painless for us. It always has been. I truly feel for the parents who have to peel a screaming child off their leg, because I would never be able to do it!

7:15 - Arrive at School

I get to school at 7:15 most mornings, which gives me 45 minutes to prep before my first period class. I am one of the first people in the building and I love how quiet it is in there! I get so much done during this time!

8:00 to 11:40 - Teaching

11:40 to 12:15 - Lunch

My lunch goes one of two ways. Option A) I head out & pick up another iced tea and have a few minutes to myself. Option B) I eat lunch with two of my best friends. Both options always leave me feeling satisfied...

12:15 to 3:00 - More Teaching

3:00 - Out of There

In the fall, I leave the building right at 3 because I have to pick up Ella & get to practice on time. It's totally chaotic for me to rush out of the building, but it's my only option, so I make it work.

3:30 to 5:00 - Freshman Practice

I start my night with Freshman Practice. Ella normally plays with the iPad or plays with toys from her backpack. Again, she's pretty good at entertaining herself with completely random items!

5:00 to 7:00 - Varsity Practice

Once we finish with the Freshman, we head to the High School for Varsity practice. Ella eats a snack when we arrive, and then plays with the girls whenever they aren't on the mat. Thankfully we had a few girls who were injured, so someone was always able to help out with her. Plus, I co-coach Varsity so there is tons of attention here!

7:00 to 7:25 - Commute

The evening commute sucks! It feels twice as long as the morning does, mainly because I'm usually starving at this point!

7:30 - Dinner

We literally eat the second we walk in the door! Eric has been great about having something on the table, whether he made it or heated it up, I don't care! We all sit at the table together. No T.V. No phones. This is usually one of my favorite parts of the day.

8:00 - Sweatpants & Baths

We start to settle down for the night which means sweatpants for me & a bath for Ella. Once we're both comfy, we head back downstairs to read & play for a little bit.

8:45 - Bedtime for Ella

I know this is a late bedtime for a two year old, but it's what worked for her this season. She has never been a big sleeper, so we're lucky to get 8 hours out of her on most nights anyways. If I put her to bed any earlier, her dad wouldn't ever see her & she'd be up at 4:30 instead of 5:30.

9:00 - Unwinding

If I haven't already fallen asleep, I start to unwind. I try to make sure everything is in order for the next day & spend some time with Eric. Normally, this means we watch one of our favorite sitcoms until I pass out...

So yeah, this fall was hectic. I'm glad it's over, but I felt like it was important to document this season in our lives. We made it through it & I feel like we're stronger because of it. Winter will be less hectic with more time at home each day. So even though I'm dreading the winter weather, I'm not dreading winter season.
